The Organisation

AgResearch is a leading Crown Research Institute, tasked with delivering cutting-edge science and innovation to enhance and support the value and sustainability of New Zealand agriculture. Our internationally-recognised scientists work across the pastoral, agri-food and agri-technology sectors with a range of stakeholders, research organisations and universities, both nationally and internationally. We are proud to be a unique organisation that is driving prosperity by transforming agriculture.

The Role

As a member of AgResearch's in-house Legal team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside all parts of the business, and on projects that make a direct contribution to New Zealand's future.

The nature of AgResearch's business makes for interesting and challenging legal work. Our Legal team advises on R&D agreements and other commercial contracts, intellectual property and commercialisation, multi-party and cross-border projects, commercial ventures including joint ventures, ICT contracts, governance, property transactions, procurement, risk, disputes, Official Information Act requests and compliance. While not expected to be experienced across all areas, this is the mix of work that will likely cross your desk.

You will have

  • 5+ years PQE in commercial law, with a background working in the field of intellectual property being highly desirable
  • A reputation for providing excellent customer service and forming great working relationships
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively advise on complex commercial transactions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good judgement, with a pragmatic yet professional approach to providing legal advice
  • A great attitude and the drive to contribute positively to the success of the AgResearch Legal team and wider organisation
  • An interest in or enthusiasm to learn about science, technology and agriculture.

If you're a great lawyer but don't quite have the experience outlined above, we are still keen to receive your application and discuss the possibilities.

You will be working in a great forward thinking team of 6, with a strong focus on teamwork and being the best it can be.
